Pâté Chinois

Pâté Chinois

Pâté chinois is a dish from Quebec that my older sister loves to make. It has now become a dish that is on rotation at my house. My kids love it and I often change it up to use what I have in the fridge.

    Ingredients

    • 6 Medium potatoes
    • 1/2 cup Milk (Use almond milk to make it dairy free)
    • 2 tbsp. Butter
    • Salt
    • Pepper
    • 1 1/2 lbs Lean ground beef
    • 1/2 tbsp. Dried Oregano
    • 1 1/2 cup Corn
    • 1 can Cream of corn

    Instructions

    1. Peel and cut your potatoes in small pieces. Place in a medium pot, pour enough water to cover the potatoes.
    2. Bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until tender.
    3. In the meantime, heat up a medium pan on medium heat. When hot enough, add the ground beef. Season with oregano, salt and pepper. Cook until no longer pink. If possible, do not drain the fat as it will make your meat really dry.
    4. Preheat the over to 380°F.
    5. When the potatoes are cooked, drain and place back in the pot. Add the milk, butter, salt and pepper to taste. Mash using a potato masher.
    6. In a 3L baking dish, lay down the ground beef, layer with the cream of corn, add the corn, finish with the mashed potatoes.
    7. Bake for 30 minutes.
