Homemade bagels

    These bagels are so easy to make and soooo good!!!! I like them best toasted but I always like bagels toasted in general. They can be made with whole wheat or gluten free flour but they might not rise as much.

    Because they rise during baking, make sure you give them enough space in the pan.

    This is recipe from Skinnytaste and only 3sp for anyone doing weight watchers. For those of you who don’t, they are just healthy and good bagels! Lol

    The greek yogurt is a must as regular yogurt is too liquid.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup Flour
    • 1 1/2 tsp. Baking power
    • 3/4 tsp. Salt
    • 1 cup Greek yogurt
    • 1 Egg white

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place parchment paper on a baking sheet. If using parchment paper, spray with oil to avoid sticking.
    2. In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt and stir together. Add the yogurt and mix with a fork or spatula until well combined, it will look like small crumbles.
    3. Lightly dust flour on a work surface and knead the dough a few times until dough is smooth (about 1 min). Divide into 4 equal balls. Roll each ball into 3/4-inch thick ropes and join the ends to form bagels.
    4. Brush bagels with egg wash. Bake for 22 minutes in 350°F degree oven. Remove them while you increase the oven temperature to 550°F. When at temperature, cook for another 5 minutes.

    Notes

    • These can have any toppings you want such as sesame seeds, onion flakes or cheese for example.
    • They are excellent on their own but I like mine toasted with an egg ( I have an addiction for eggs lol)
    • In order to make them gluten free follow these tips:
      • Increase the baking powder to 2 teaspoons
      • Whipp one egg white and add that with the yogurt
      • Once you form the bagels dip your finger in water and smooth it out.
      • Increase the oven to 400F and let them bake 20 minutes. Let them cool before cutting open.
